One happy ass ol mixer!!! About two years ago I sold my mpc-2000xl for Tracktor Skratch. I did this because I could no longer afford to buy records as I had in the past. I needed to stay relevent and this was the best way to do it. Although I have to admit, being an audio engineer, I don't much care for the quality of a 320 mp3 or the tracktor box. Not thats it's bad just not vinyl. But honestly, when one goes into any club or wherehouse your ears are gonna compress heavily within ten minutes because of the crazy loud decibels anyways. So I abandoned my audiofile ways!
Then I bought Mixed in Key. Which I find is a great way to know what songs will musically mix. As I'm the type of mixer who likes to mix for minutes at a time, I need to know that I can overlap. Before I bought this program I would premix my new stuff and keep a mental list of what went well and what didn't. However over time I got so much music my brain went into overload. I had digitized my back catalogue. Since I had to come up with two hours of mixed content a week for my radio show I started to play a lot of my old jams. However I didn't really remember how alot of them sounded because I hadn't played them in years.
Now with everything digitized, keyed and catagorized, I can easily play any song I ever bought! It has changed things for the better I think. I also like that I have an up to 32 count sampler in Trackor Skratch. So now I don't really have to adjust my mixes for records that are made with off counts. I can sample on the fly to do whatever I want. It's fucking fantastic. I feel like I'm 16 again. It inspired me to begin making music. It's an exciting time in our culture right now. I can't wait to see what the coming decade has instore for us! |
